Postal services in Europe have suspended the delivery of parcels to the United States

European postal operators have announced a temporary suspension of parcel delivery to the US due to the fact that new import tariffs for goods worth less than $800 will come into effect at the end of August. This is reported by Politico.

The postal services of France, Spain, Germany and Great Britain have announced that they will temporarily stop delivering parcels to the US starting next week to adapt to the new rules. The Belgian company Bpost stopped delivery already on Friday.

“The suspension will be in effect for the time necessary to take the necessary operational measures to meet the new obligations of the United States”, – Spain’s national postal service Correos said on Friday.

The introduction of tariffs on small parcels comes just as the US and the European Union signed a new trade deal designed to end months of escalating tensions over tariff policies between the two sides.

We will remind you that in July US President Donald Trump canceled the benefit for the duty-free import of goods of low value, known as de minimis. This decision will come into effect on August 29.
