Protection of children in the family will be discussed at the fourth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen: Zelenska
During the panel "Protection of children in the family" at the Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen in Kyiv, the stories of children from Ukraine will be discussed.
At the fourth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen, which will be held on September 12 in Kyiv, world leaders, international experts and representatives of the public will discuss the issue of children’s safety in the family. About this reported First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska on her Facebook page.
She noted that during the “Protection of Children in the Family” panel at the Summit, the stories of children from Ukraine will be considered.
In particular, Zelenska told the story of Mykola Semenyuta, who is 29 years old. He spent 23 years of his life in boarding school after his biological parents gave him up in a maternity hospital because of his disability. Mykola proved his legal capacity through the court, and only after that, as an adult, was he invited by his family to live with them. At the age of 23, he first felt family warmth and changed his life, for example, celebrating his birthday for the first time, which was impossible in a boarding school.
According to Zelenska, “there are thousands of similar stories among children in Ukraine.”
The first lady noted that during the panel “Protection of children in the family” not only these stories will be discussed, but also the question of how to ensure that every child in the world has a loving family.
“On this panel, together with colleagues from different countries, international experts and public representatives, we will talk about the family through the prism of parenthood, as the main aspect of a safe childhood. How different approaches to parenting affect the formation of a child’s personality and human capital in general.”, – emphasized Olena Zelenska.
The following topics will be discussed at the panel: parenting competencies – what are they?; physical and mental safety of the child in the family – how to create a safe environment and cope with dangers; examples of government systems that support family and parenthood; real stories of families and experiences of children.
Zelenska thanked the head of the UNICEF Office in Ukraine, Munir Mamedzadeh, who agreed to moderate this panel.
She added: “Together with the United Nations Children’s Fund, we are already overcoming many challenges faced by children in Ukraine. So I hope that this panel will bring practical results for new projects in the field of family support.”.
