Putin named the new conditions for the use of nuclear weapons: the Russian Federation will be able to use them after missile and UAV strikes on its territory
During the meeting of the Security Council dedicated to nuclear deterrence, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced changes in the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons. This was reported by the Telegram channel “Ostrozhno, novosti” with reference to a video recording of the speech of the Russian leader.
Putin noted that the new revision of the foundations of the nuclear doctrine expands the list of countries and military alliances with respect to which Russia will exercise nuclear deterrence. In addition, new categories were added to the list of military threats that, according to the Kremlin, require nuclear deterrence measures.
“In the updated version of the document, aggression against Russia by any non-nuclear state, but with the participation or support of a nuclear state, is proposed to be considered as their joint attack on the Russian Federation”Putin said.
He emphasized that reliable information about the launch of air-space attack means in the direction of Russia will be the basis for a nuclear response. In addition, a critical threat to the sovereignty of the Russian Federation, even with the use of conventional weapons, can also lead to the use of a nuclear arsenal.
Putin noted that Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in the event of aggression against Russia or Belarus, which is a member of the allied state. This decision was agreed with the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.
The Russian leader also emphasized that the nuclear triad of the Russian Federation remains a key element of ensuring the security of Russia and its citizens, as well as an important tool for maintaining strategic balance and power parity in the world.
It will be recalled that the British Foreign Minister David Lammy previously stated that Putin’s threats to use nuclear weapons are an attempt to intimidate the international community and divert attention from the real problems facing Russia.
