Rubio and Lavrov discussed preparations for Trump-Putin meeting

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a telephone conversation to discuss preparations for the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, State Department Deputy Press Secretary Tommy Pigott announced.

“Secretary of State Marco Rubio held talks today with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to discuss next steps following the phone call between President Trump and President Putin on October 16,” – Pigott said.

According to him, Rubio emphasized the importance of the upcoming meetings as an opportunity for Moscow and Washington to cooperate to achieve lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine “in accordance with President Trump””.

The Kremlin, in turn, called the talks a “constructive discussion” concerning “possible concrete steps to implement the agreements” that Trump and Putin reached during their conversation.

“A constructive discussion took place regarding possible concrete steps in the interests of implementing the understandings that were reached during the telephone talks between the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the President of the United States Donald Trump, which took place on October 16”, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement Russia.

As a reminder, last week US President Donald Trump had a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

After the conversation, Trump said that talks between high-level advisers would take place next week, the US delegation would be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the venue for the meeting has not yet been determined. In addition, Trump announced his intention to meet with Putin in Budapest to discuss the possibility of ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.
