Russia has warned that it will take appropriate measures if nuclear weapons are deployed in Finland

The Russian Federation has sharply stated that it will take appropriate measures if Finland deploys nuclear weapons on its territory. This was reported by Reuters.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said:

“This statement leads to an escalation of tensions on the European continent. This statement increases the vulnerability of Finland, a vulnerability provoked by the actions of the Finnish authorities. The point is that by deploying nuclear weapons on its territory, Finland begins to threaten us. And if Finland threatens us, we take appropriate measures.”

Finland previously adhered to a policy of neutrality, but on March 5 it announced its intention to lift the ban on the deployment of nuclear weapons, which opens up the possibility of their deployment in the event of war. Finnish President Alexander Stubb clarified that the policy change is aimed at integration into NATO’s nuclear planning and does not involve the immediate deployment of weapons on the country’s territory.

This change in Finland’s position comes against the backdrop of discussions in Europe about strengthening nuclear deterrence, as well as in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine and US President Donald Trump’s statements about possible geopolitical moves in the Arctic.

According to the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, the United Kingdom and France are allegedly planning to transfer nuclear weapons and their delivery means to Ukraine, resolving related issues hidden.
