Russia sees no point in a new round of negotiations with Ukraine

Russian President’s Advisor on Foreign Policy Yuri Ushakov said that there is currently no need to hold another round of trilateral talks involving Ukraine, Russia and the United States. According to him, in order to achieve progress, Kyiv must withdraw its troops from Donbas. This is reported by Interfax.

Ushakov claims that all parties, including Ukrainian negotiators, “understand that now Kyiv needs to take only one serious step.” After that, according to him, the hostilities will cease, and there will also be opportunities for “serious discussion of the prospects for a further long-term settlement.”

“Everyone understands this, so now, to be honest, convincing each other is a waste of time, because this step is now expected from Kyiv, in particular from Zelensky,” — said Ushakov.

On May 7, the head of the Ukrainian negotiating team and a figure in the “Mindich tapes” Rustem Umerov arrived in the United States for negotiations with representatives of the White House. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Umerov has three tasks in different directions.
