SAPO demands confiscation of unfounded assets of former Deputy Minister of Energy
The prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has filed a lawsuit with the court to declare the assets acquired by the then Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Oleksandr Heilo in 2021–2023 unfounded.
This concerns a residential building and a land plot with an area of 0.0345 hectares, located in the Kyiv region. The total value of the property is 4,956,900 hryvnias.
According to the SAPO, the ownership of these assets is formally registered in the name of third parties, but the property was allegedly purchased in the interests and on behalf of an official.
“An official has the opportunity to directly or indirectly take actions with respect to such an asset that are identical in content to exercising the right to dispose of it”, the prosecutor’s office noted.
The SAPO also reported that an analysis of the property status of Hale and his wife confirmed the impossibility of acquiring these objects at the expense of legal income.
In view of this, the prosecutor asks the court to recognize the assets as unfounded and to collect them as state revenue. The lawsuit was filed on the basis of materials from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and evidence independently obtained by the SAPO prosecutor.
