SBU detained an FSB agent in a combat unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region

Military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine delayed an FSB agent who worked in a combat unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kharkiv Oblast.

The detainee turned out to be a 26-year-old mobilized fighter who was recruited by the Russian special service through the Telegram channel, which offered “easy earnings.” According to the investigation, the man agreed to cooperate with the enemy because of gambling debts.

The investigation established that the person involved transmitted the coordinates of the positions of his unit, which restrained the advance of Russian troops in the Veliky Burluk area, for the task of air bomb and heavy artillery strikes. Before the attacks, he left the danger zone ahead of time under various invented pretexts.

In addition to adjusting the fire, the agent also collected information about the placement of other units of the Defense Forces in the vicinity during exits from the location. According to the SBU, the enemy planned to use the data received from him to prepare breakthroughs deep into Ukrainian territory. Counterintelligence agents detained the agent while fixing the coordinates of Ukrainian positions near the front line. During the searches, a phone with evidence of cooperation with the Russian special service was seized from him.

The security service also identified his curator – he turned out to be a citizen of the Russian Federation Oleksiy Leonidovych Suprunenko, a native of Sevastopol, born in 1978, an FSB employee who previously worked in the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine, but after 2014 switched to the side of the aggressor country. After the traitor was exposed, the SBU took a set of measures for the security of the Ukrainian military — in particular, with regard to the base points and movement routes on this part of the front.

The agent was notified of the suspicion under 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — treason under martial law. Suspicion was also announced to his supervisor from the FSB in the same article. The detainee is currently in custody without bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Investigative actions were carried out under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Eastern region.
