Scholz criticized Trump’s intention to receive Ukraine’s rare earth metals in exchange for aid
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz sharply criticized Donald Trump’s proposal for Ukraine to supply rare earth metals to the United States in exchange for financial assistance. About this informs DW.
According to him, Ukrainian resources should be directed to the reconstruction of the country after the war, and not be used for immediate financing of military needs.
“It would be very selfish and self-centered to spend these funds now,” – emphasized the chancellor.
Scholz also emphasized that after the end of the war, Kyiv will need a strong army and significant funding to rebuild the destroyed infrastructure.
“These are huge challenges, given the scale of the destruction. Therefore, I believe that Ukraine’s resources should work for its future.” he added.
It will be recalled that earlier Donald Trump said that the US is ready to continue helping Ukraine if Kyiv agrees to supply strategically important minerals.
