Sweden was the first in the EU to allocate an additional 66.4 million euros under the Ukraine Facility program
The Government of Sweden allocated an additional 750 million Swedish crowns (66.4 million euros) to Ukraine within the framework of the Ukraine Facility program of the European Union on its own initiative. This became possible thanks to the signing of an agreement between Stockholm and Brussels. This is stated in a press release published on the website of the Swedish government.
“Thanks to this new agreement, Sweden becomes the first country in the EU that intends to allocate additional funds through the Ukraine Facility to strengthen the national budget of Ukraine”, said the Minister of International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Sweden, Benjamin Dawes.
He emphasized that economic stability is a key condition for Ukraine’s ability to continue paying salaries and pensions, as well as to ensure the functioning of health, education and social protection systems.
Let us remind you that on August 22, Ukraine received financial assistance from the EU in the amount of more than 4 billion euros within the framework of two programs: ERA Loans and Ukraine Facility. The Ukraine Facility program was agreed on February 1, 2024 at the EU summit in Brussels. The leaders of the European Union approved a four-year support package for Ukraine in the amount of 50 billion euros.
On February 27, the European Parliament supported the decision to launch the program, and on February 28, the EU Council finally approved the Ukraine Facility instrument with a total budget of 50 billion euros for 2024-2027.
According to the terms of the program, 50 billion euros will be provided to Ukraine over four years, of which 39 billion will be directed directly to the state budget in order to strengthen macro-financial stability.
On May 22, 2024, Ukraine and the EU signed a framework agreement on financing within the Ukraine Facility. The document defines the mechanisms of financial cooperation, management and control over the use of funds, and also provides for joint measures to prevent corruption.
