Syrian President Offers Assistance to Lebanon and Hezbollah in Solving Crisis

Syria is ready to promote internal dialogue in Lebanon, in particular with the participation of Hezbollah, to restore peace and stability in the country. This was stated in an interview with Al Mashhad TV channel said Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

According to him, Lebanon is experiencing a deep political crisis, and the space for reaching compromises is rapidly narrowing. Al-Sharaa warned that further strengthening of internal polarization could have devastating consequences, so the country needs a general political consensus.

“Some Lebanese parties remain bound by old prejudices, despite the serious challenges that Lebanon faces. This country is experiencing a serious crisis and a narrowing of the space for political agreements… And to resolve the current situation, innovative approaches are needed, not traditional solutions,” the Syrian President noted.

He also stressed the need to resolve the status of Hezbollah and guarantee the security of Lebanon’s Shiite community.

“We want to resolve the Hezbollah issue to ensure Lebanon’s survival, and we are ready to sit down at the negotiating table with them if it benefits everyone. We must analyze the events and seek solutions for the security of the Shiite community in Lebanon, not to endanger it,” al-Sharaa stressed.

He also commented on US President Donald Trump’s statements about a possible role for Damascus in the Lebanese settlement. According to al-Sharaa, these words were misinterpreted as Syria’s preparation for military intervention.

“Trump spoke about Syria’s role in finding a safe and peaceful solution, but this statement was misinterpreted – as if Syria was going to send troops into Lebanon tomorrow morning. In fact, the US is focused on ending the conflict and eliminating its consequences for both Lebanon and Syria,” he explained.

The Syrian authorities link the settlement of the crisis with the restoration of Lebanon’s state institutions, overcoming the consequences of the war and launching joint socio-economic projects. Damascus emphasizes that relations between neighboring countries should be built on common interests.
