The Cabinet of Ministers temporarily banned the export of unprocessed wood
The government has decided to temporarily ban the export of unprocessed wood, setting a zero quota until the end of the year due to its shortage. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
“The government has made an important decision – temporarily banning the export of unprocessed wood. This is a necessary step to take care of people in the winter, keep our enterprises operating, and reduce the burden on the environment”, Svyrydenko said.
According to the prime minister, the volume of logging in Ukraine has significantly decreased since the beginning of the full-scale invasion:
“Enterprises that could operate are idle or operating at minimum capacity due to a shortage of wood. The army needs wood for its needs. Life in rural communities depends on the availability of wood, where firewood is a key resource for heating in winter.
Svyrydenko also emphasized that the war has caused serious damage to the environment: some forests are under occupation or destroyed by hostilities, so wood exports only increase the burden on the ecosystem.
“The decision provides for licensing exports – a zero quota by the end of the year. We continue to develop further steps to systematically address the wood shortage,“ added the Prime Minister.
