The court confirmed the guilt of the ex-president of France in corruption

The French Court of Cassation rejected the appeal of former President Nicolas Sarkozy, who was convicted in a corruption case in 2021. About this informs BFM TV.

Sarkozy was found guilty in the so-called “wiretapping case”. Thus, the decision to sentence him to prison for three years, including one year under house arrest with a bracelet, became final.

However, the Court of Cassation must transfer its decision to the Court of Appeals, which in turn will send the case materials to the Paris Department of Execution of Sentences.

“Nicolas Sarkozy will obviously comply with the imposed sanctions, which are now final. At the same time, he will apply to the European Court in the coming weeks, as he is now entitled to do, to be guaranteed the rights that the French judges have denied him.”, – said his lawyer Patris Spinoza.

We will remind that on March 1, 2021, a court in France found Nicolas Sarkozy guilty of corruption. On May 17, 2023, his appeal was rejected, and in February 2024, the Paris court cut his sentence in half.
