The EU is introducing a new border control system
The European Union is launching a new biometric border control system that will replace traditional stamps in passports and record data on the entry and exit of citizens of third countries, including Ukrainians. This is reported by the press service of the State Border Service of Ukraine
“Citizens and subjects of international transport should pay attention to the planned start of operation of the new digital Entry/Exit System (EES) at the external borders of the countries of the European Union and the Schengen zone”, says the message.
The gradual launch of the system is planned from mid-October 2025 at border crossing points with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. Its effect will be extended to all citizens of third countries, including Ukrainians, who cross the external borders of the Schengen zone for the purpose of a short-term stay – up to 90 days within a 180-day period. The EES system is an automated centralized database designed for electronic accounting of border crossings without the need to stamp passports.
“The State Border Service of Ukraine calls on citizens of Ukraine who are planning trips to EU countries to take these changes into account. For its part, the State Border Service of Ukraine interacts with the border agencies of neighboring countries and is ready for possible minor changes in the border traffic., – added to the DPSU.
