The EU plans to provide Ukraine with 2 million shells by October: Kaya Kallas

The European Union plans to fully fulfill this year’s promise and provide the Defense Forces of Ukraine with 2 million artillery shells by October. This was announced EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Callas during a speech in the European Parliament at the opening of the debate on Ukraine.

“We have fulfilled 80% of our promise of two million ammunition. We aim to reach 100% by October, Kallas emphasized.

She emphasized that the total EU support for Ukraine has already amounted to almost 169 billion euros since the start of a full-scale war in 2022, of which more than 63 billion euros is military aid.

“This year alone, member states will provide 25 billion euros for this purpose, which is more than ever before”, Callas said.

She also reminded of the three key areas of EU support: the development of the powerful Armed Forces of Ukraine, ensuring internal security and stability through the EU civilian mission, as well as strengthening the defense industry.

Callas separately noted that Europe has become the largest donor to Ukraine’s defense industry thanks to profits from frozen Russian assets:

“Russia’s assets must remain frozen until Russia ceases its aggression against Ukraine and compensates Ukraine for the billions of euros of damage it has caused and continues to cause. This is exactly what the European Council said. It is imperative that we fulfill this commitment.
