The head of the British Foreign Ministry compared Putin to a mafia leader and a slave owner
British Foreign Minister David Lammy harshly criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing him of running a “mafia state” and comparing his actions to slave ownership. These loud statements were made during his speech at a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York. About this informs edition of Politico.
Addressing the Russian representative, Lemmy said: “We know who you are,” and emphasized that Putin’s actions during the invasion of Ukraine are aimed solely at strengthening personal power and spreading corruption in the interests of creating a “mafia empire.”
“Your invasion is in your own interest. Yours alone. To turn your mafia state into a mafia empire. An empire built on corruption”, said the head of the British Foreign Ministry.
Lemmy also compared the situation in Ukraine to the times of slave ownership and emphasized his personal position when talking about imperialism.
“Mr. President, I speak not only as a Briton, as a Londoner and as Foreign Secretary. But I stand here also as a black man whose ancestors were taken in chains from Africa at gunpoint to be enslaved, whose ancestors rebelled and fought in to the great revolt of the enslaved”, – said Lemmy.
“Imperialism: I’ll know it when I see it. And I’ll call it what it is.”, he emphasized.
Lemmy’s statement was made against the background of Ukraine’s active attempts to obtain permission to use Western long-range missiles, in particular the British Storm Shadow, to strike Russian targets deep in the country. According to The Times, the United Kingdom and the United States are considering the possibility of granting such permission, but the details remain confidential for now to preserve the element of surprise for Russia.
