The issue of inviting Ukraine to join NATO is not yet on the agenda: U.S.

The United States of America firmly adheres to its position on the future membership of Ukraine in NATO, but at this moment a short-term invitation to the Alliance remains an issue that is not officially considered. This was reported by the Permanent Representative of the USA to NATO, Julianna Smith comments for Ukrinform.

According to Smith, at the 75th NATO anniversary summit in the summer, it was clearly stated that Ukraine is on the “irreversible path” to NATO membership. She emphasized that the position of the United States remains unchanged: Ukraine will definitely become part of the Alliance in the future.

At the same time, despite numerous calls from Ukraine regarding the possibility of receiving an official invitation to NATO, the Alliance is currently not at the stage when the issue of a short-term invitation is actively discussed.

Julianna Smith also drew attention to the fact that NATO member states continue close cooperation with Ukraine, in particular, they are discussing ways to bring Ukraine closer to the Alliance through further steps of integration. These talks aim to strengthen ties between Ukraine and NATO and help Ukraine take another important step towards membership.
