The language ombudsman explained when teachers must use the Ukrainian language
With the beginning of the new school year, Taras Kremin, Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, drew attention to the importance of using the Ukrainian language in the educational process. He emphasized that Ukrainian is mandatory not only during lessons, but also during breaks and extracurricular activities. About this informs “UP. Life”.
According to the legislation, every citizen of Ukraine has a guaranteed right to get an education in the state language. Educational institutions must provide such a study of Ukrainian so that graduates can work professionally in their field.
For representatives of indigenous peoples and national minorities, it is possible to study in their native language along with Ukrainian through the creation of separate classes.
Kremin emphasized that the educational process covers all activities within the educational institution: lessons, extracurricular activities, communication between students and employees – in classrooms, canteens, sports halls or even in school stadiums.
“The break is also part of the educational process, and the state language should be heard there”, – emphasized the language ombudsman.
He also reminded that fines may be imposed for non-compliance with language legislation. School principals, rectors and teachers who deliberately ignore the requirements regarding the use of the Ukrainian language in education may be held accountable.
