The leader of Kazakhstan called Russia “invincible” and supported the peace initiatives of China and Brazil

The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, said that Russia is “invincible in the military sense”, and further continuation of the war could lead to catastrophic consequences. He emphasized that now it is important to focus on finding peaceful ways to resolve the conflict, in particular, considering the proposals of different countries for settlement.

Tokayev expressed this opinion during negotiations with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his visit to Kazakhstan.

The President of Kazakhstan noted that the further escalation of the war will have unpredictable consequences for the whole world, including the countries directly involved in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. He also recalled that in 2022, the chance to conclude a truce was lost due to the refusal to sign the Istanbul Agreement.

It will be recalled that the first peace talks between Ukraine and Russia began immediately after the invasion in February 2022. Initially, the meetings took place in Belarus, but later they were moved to Turkey, where the parties discussed the possible terms of the agreement until April. However, no agreement was reached.

According to Tokayev, a peaceful settlement of the conflict is still possible. He called to consider the peace initiatives of various countries, stop hostilities, and only then proceed to negotiations on territorial issues.

Tokayev also emphasized that Kazakhstan supports the peace plan proposed by China and Brazil and considers it worthy of attention. In addition, he emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence of neighboring nations and noted that Kazakhstan treats the Ukrainian people and their culture with great sympathy.

China-Brazil Peace Initiative

In May, the governments of Brazil and China made a peaceful proposal to settle the war between Russia and Ukraine, calling for political negotiations. Their plan included limiting the combat zone and preventing the escalation of the conflict. At the same time, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, criticized this initiative, considering it destructive, since Kyiv did not participate in the consultations regarding this proposal.
