The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine strongly condemned the dispersal of protests in Tbilisi
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed strong condemnation of the use of force against peaceful protesters in Tbilisi, calling on the Georgian authorities to respect the right of citizens to hold peaceful demonstrations.
The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that the aggravation of the internal political situation in Georgia is a consequence of numerous violations during the October 26 parliamentary elections. Ukraine called for a thorough investigation of these violations and bringing the guilty parties to justice.
Separately, the ministry commented on the decision of the Georgian government to suspend negotiations on joining the European Union.
“Ukraine is disappointed by the decision of the Georgian government to suspend negotiations on EU accession until 2028. This decision, as well as the use of force against a peaceful protest, is evidence of the curtailment of democratic processes in the country in favor of Moscow. It is not for nothing that the leadership of Georgia has already received public praise from the Kremlin for acting contrary to the European choice of its own people.” – the message says.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on the Georgian authorities to respect the choice of the majority of Georgian citizens who wish to join the European community, and to return to the implementation of the necessary reforms for EU membership. Ukraine emphasized the importance of preserving the democratic course and supporting the aspirations of the Georgian people for a free and democratic Europe.
