The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to the statement of the President of Slovakia about territorial concessions to Ukraine

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tyhiy reacted to the statement of the President of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini, who suggested that peace in Ukraine can be achieved through territorial concessions. Tychy reminded what such compromises had led to in the past.

“The last time Slovak land was ceded to an aggressor – in the name of peace – it did not turn into anything good and did not bring peace to Slovaks or other peoples.” – said Tychy’s message.

This comment refers to the events of 1938, when Slovakia, as part of Czechoslovakia, became an object of the Munich Agreement. Without the consent of Czechoslovakia itself, Great Britain, France, Germany and Italy agreed to transfer the Sudetenland to Germany, motivated by the desire to avoid war. However, such concessions only encouraged Adolf Hitler’s aggression, and peace never came.

Earlier, the President of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini, stated that in order to achieve peace in Ukraine, it is necessary to maintain a “realistic approach”, which, in his opinion, may include partial territorial losses for Ukraine.
