The Ministry of Health has begun testing a new model of mobile medical teams in deoccupied and frontline communities

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has begun testing a new model of involving mobile medical teams to provide assistance to residents of de-occupied and frontline territories. The first pilot deployment of teams from different regions took place in Chernihiv region, where doctors conducted over a thousand consultations and examinations in border communities in just one day.

“Bringing medical care closer to residents of communities located near the border or affected by hostilities is an important task for us. Therefore, we are creating a new model of mobile care – a flexible, interregional one that combines the resources of the state, local authorities, and partners. Chernihiv region has become the first region where this model is already working in practice, ”, — said the Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.

Medical teams visited four communities of Chernihiv district — Radulska, Lyubetska, Dobryanska and Mykhailo-Kotsiubynska. Doctors and medical workers from city and regional hospitals, specialists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from Chernihiv, Kyiv, Cherkasy and Poltava regions, as well as a mobile diagnostic complex of the National Cancer Institute were involved in the work.

During the day, residents of these four frontline communities received consultations from family doctors and narrow-profile specialists, underwent examinations — ECG, ultrasound, fluorography, tests for hepatitis, HIV and tuberculosis. Mobile pharmacies were operating, where it was possible to purchase medicines under the “Affordable Medicines” program.

In total, 565 people received medical care, over 1,300 laboratory and instrumental examinations were conducted, 34 people were vaccinated, and 234 used mobile pharmacy points. During the visit, 2 cases of suspected tuberculosis, 2 — of lung oncopathology, 3 positive tests for syphilis, 1 — for HIV, and 4 — for hepatitis C were identified.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) operate in each region. Since the beginning of 2025, mobile teams of the CDC, in cooperation with regional health departments and doctors, have provided assistance and vaccinations for 164,917 Ukrainians in 716 communities. During such visits, 38,442 people received catch-up vaccinations, and another 137,681 received consultations from doctors, underwent initial examinations for cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases (blood pressure measurement, glucose level, ECG, fluorography) and rapid screening for hepatitis B and C, HIV and COVID-19.

Mobile visits are aimed at expanding access to free medical services for residents of remote areas – where comprehensive medical care is difficult, in particular on deoccupied lands or in emergency relief zones. This approach has already been used, for example, in the affected areas after the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station in 2023.
