The Pentagon has not used a significant part of the funds allocated to help Ukraine
The US administration must spend 6 billion dollars allocated for military aid to Ukraine by the end of September, otherwise these funds may be lost. About this informs Reuters, citing its own sources.
It is noted that the fiscal year in the USA ends on September 30, and if the funds are not used by that time, they will no longer be able to be directed to support Ukraine. In this regard, the Administration of President Joe Biden is actively negotiating with Congress in order to have time to allocate these 6 billion dollars for military aid.
The State Department hopes that Congress will have time to pass a special bill that will extend the period of use of these funds. According to congressional sources, both chambers are determined to find a solution because aid to Ukraine has broad bipartisan support.
The reasons for the slowdown in the transfer of American weapons to Ukraine this year are not yet fully understood. Reuters suggests that one possible reason is the Pentagon’s concern about depleting its own stockpiles, compounded by the defense industry’s supply chain problems.
We will remind that in April, the US House of Representatives passed the law H.R.8035 “On additional appropriations for the security of Ukraine – 2024”, which provides for more than 60 billion dollars of aid to Ukraine. However, these funds will be released gradually.
