The port of Chornomorsk exposed the embezzlement of tens of millions of hryvnias during the reconstruction of the pier

Law enforcement agencies have uncovered the misappropriation of budget funds allocated for the reconstruction of a berth at the port of Chornomorsk in the Odessa region. The suspicion was reported to the director of a private company that was performing work under a contract with a state-owned enterprise. This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

“Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the director of the company was notified of suspicion of misappropriation of state enterprise funds when paying for services for the reconstruction of the pier in the city of Chornomorsk, Odessa region,”, – the message says.

The investigation established that between the Chornomorsk branch of the state enterprise The “Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration” and a private company concluded a contract for the performance of works on the reconstruction of hydraulic equipment. The head of the enterprise submitted a tender offer in July 2018 and won the procurement procedure. The total cost of the contract was 88.6 million hryvnias.

According to the terms of the contract, the state-owned enterprise transferred an advance payment to the contractor in the amount of fifty percent of the contract amount. At the same time, the works stipulated by the agreement were not performed.

“Instead, the director of the company disposed of the funds received at his own discretion. In particular, immediately after receiving the money, he transferred it to the private account of the founder of the enterprise abroad, the prosecutor’s office noted.
