The Supreme Court upheld the sentence of the former head of the investigative department of the Prosecutor General’s Office Shcherbyna

The Supreme Court upheld the sentence of the former head of the Main Investigative Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Ihor Shcherbina, who was sentenced to six years in prison in a bribery case. About this informs Specialized anti-corruption prosecutor’s office.

“The Criminal Court of Cassation of the Supreme Court decided to leave unchanged the sentence of the VACS dated 26.06.2024 and the decision of the Appeals Chamber of the VACS dated 26.11.2024, by which I. Shcherbyn, who was accused of inciting to give 150 thousand US dollars of illegal benefits to the former director of the DBR, allegedly for closing the criminal proceedings investigated by the territorial management of the DBR”, – the message says.

The SAP noted that the Supreme Court supported the prosecutor’s position, rejected the cassation appeals of the defense and confirmed the legality of previous court decisions.

Shcherbina was found guilty under Part 4 of Art. 190, Part 2 of Art. 15, Part 4 of Art. 27, Part 4 of Art. 369, Part 1 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He was sentenced to six years in prison with the confiscation of all property owned by him. In addition, he was deprived of the prestigious rank of senior advisor of justice. The decision of the Supreme Court is final and not subject to appeal.

It will be recalled that the former head of the Main Investigation Department of the GPU was detained by NABU detectives back in December 2019. According to the indictment, he demanded 150,000 dollars from a developer from the capital through the intermediary of an entrepreneur, allegedly for the then director of the DBR, Roman Truba, in order to close criminal proceedings against the company. Shcherbina and the developer were detained after they received the first tranche of $75,000.
