The UN Command calls for an immediate end to military cooperation between the Russian Federation and the DPRK
The United Nations Command (UNC) has called on Russia and North Korea to immediately end military cooperation, expressing serious concerns about the supply of weapons and other forms of interaction. About this informs Yonhap.
The statement was made public after a meeting of defense ministers and representatives of the multinational forces that monitor the observance of the armistice concluded after the Korean War of 1950-53. In a joint statement, the participants expressed concern over the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement” signed between Russia and North Korea, which includes arms trade and technological cooperation.
“Defense ministers and representatives expressed serious concern about the military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK provided for by the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty, including arms operations and technological cooperation. They call on Russia and the DPRK to immediately cease all such activities.”, the statement says.
The US and South Korea have also accused North Korea of violating UN Security Council resolutions related to the supply of weapons to Russia to support its war against Ukraine.
South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun stressed that illegal support from North Korea has caused severe consequences for Ukraine, calling on countries that share the values of freedom and democracy to join forces.
The participants also strongly condemned North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs and reaffirmed their readiness for a unified response in the event of a resumption of hostilities or an attack on South Korea.
The UN Command, established in 1950 under a UN mandate to support South Korea, currently includes 18 countries, including Australia, Great Britain, Germany, France, Turkey and others.
