The United States allowed Turkey not to comply with sanctions against Gazprombank
Turkey has announced that the US has allowed it to evade sanctions against Russia’s Gazprombank, which ensures unimpeded payments for Russian gas. About this reported Minister of Energy of Turkey Alparslan Bayraktar.
According to him, after a series of negotiations with US representatives, Ankara received permission to continue financial transactions through Gazprombank without risking falling under US sanctions.
Sanctions against Gazprombank, introduced by Washington in November, caused concern among many countries, including EU members, due to the complication of calculations for the supply of Russian gas. Bayraktar stressed that Turkey needed the exception because of its dependence on Russian gas, which covers more than a third of its needs.
We will remind that earlier Hungary also announced about receiving a similar easing of sanctions. Turkey raised the issue of easing restrictions at talks with the US delegation led by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
