The US is introducing restrictions on press visits to the Pentagon
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has approved restrictions on journalists visiting the Pentagon. About this it is said in the department’s official memorandum.
According to the new rules, media representatives will no longer be able to move independently in many areas of the building where they previously had free access. We are talking not only about the offices of the minister, his deputies and assistants, but also about the premises of the press services of all branches of the military — the army, air force, navy, marine corps and space forces.
Journalists are also prohibited from visiting the office of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Kane, without prior permission from the minister and accompanied by designated representatives. Hegseth attributed these restrictions to the need to strengthen security measures.
“While the Department remains committed to transparency, it is equally committed to protecting classified intelligence and confidential information, the unauthorized disclosure of which could endanger the lives of U.S. military personnel.” – stated in the document signed by the minister.
In addition, from now on, journalists arriving at the Pentagon must sign a non-disclosure form.
