The US State Department commented on Lavrov’s statement about “red lines”

The US State Department reacted to the latest statements of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov regarding Moscow’s so-called “red lines” related to military support for Ukraine. During briefing State Department spokesman Matthew Miller emphasized that US aid to Ukraine will not only continue, but is necessary in light of the illegal war that Russia has waged against the sovereign state.

When asked by a Russian journalist about the possibility of the US violating Russia’s “red lines”, Miller answered as follows:

“Our assistance to Ukraine is aimed at supporting its sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of aggression unleashed by Russia. If Moscow wants to avoid the death of its soldiers and other consequences, the best way is an immediate end to the war and the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine.”

Earlier, Sergey Lavrov said that the US had already “crossed” its own “red lines” by providing Ukraine with long-range missiles and other types of weapons, and called on Washington not to joke about this issue. According to him, further actions of the USA may lead to unforeseen consequences. Moscow sees the supply of weapons, including long-range missiles, as an attempt to expand the conflict and interfere in Russia’s affairs, which the Kremlin believes threatens stability in the region.

In parallel with these statements, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov hinted at possible changes in Russia’s nuclear doctrine. He noted that the “current state of affairs”, as he called it, dictates the need to adapt the country’s nuclear policy to new geopolitical realities. Peskov emphasized that these changes were caused by the actions of the “collective West”, meaning the continuation of military support for Ukraine by Western countries.
