The Verkhovna Rada plans to lower the mobilization age to 55 years

The Verkhovna Rada registered draft law No. 12222, which provides for lowering the maximum permissible age for mobilization from 60 to 55 years. This is evidenced by the information made public on the official website of the parliament.

The draft law focuses on the need to demobilize servicemen who have been wounded, as well as those who have already reached the age of 50. The authors of the document refer to the appeal of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“I propose to reduce the age limit for military service and in the reserve from 60 to 55 years. I have already submitted the corresponding bill No. 12222 to the Verkhovna Rada”, – reported Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko.

As stated in the explanatory note, lower-ranking commanders are asking the General Staff to mobilize fewer seniors because in some combat situations they cannot effectively perform tasks. At the same time, it is emphasized that military personnel aged 50+ can still be useful, depending on the nature of their involvement.

The document also provides that men who have reached the prescribed age limit can continue to serve if they wish. The bill is based on a petition that proposed lowering the mobilization age to 50 years. This petition has collected more than 25,000 signatures needed for consideration.
