Thousands of kilometers on a bicycle: a Ukrainian of British origin raises money for children
A Briton of Ukrainian origin plans to travel seven thousand kilometers and three continents (Asia, America and Europe) by bicycle Pavlo Tanasiuk, to raise funds to help Ukrainian children affected by the war.
Pavel is the director and founder of the British space company Spacebit. He called his charity event “Ride for victory”. Pavlo plans to start the cycling marathon in two weeks. The starting point of the charity trip will be Taiwan.
7 thousand kilometers is a symbolic number
At first, the distance that the entrepreneur wanted to cover was smaller. However, later Pavlo Tanasiuk chose a symbolic number.
“I thought of going 2-3 thousand kilometers, but when I found out that the borders of Ukraine are almost 7 thousand kilometers, it is with Crimea, then I decided to drive exactly this distance – 6993 kilometers. It is precisely these borders that we want to return, because it our state”, – noted the founder of the company Spacebit.
What will the marathon look like?
Pavel’s action will last for about two months – that’s how much the entrepreneur will need to cover 7 thousand kilometers. Tanasyuk will be accompanied by a car in which he can spend the night. During the day, he will drive and lead the streams, thanks to which he will collect donations, and at night he will stop to rest in the same car, in a tent or in a hotel – that’s how it will turn out.
With his action and online broadcasts, the British man of Ukrainian origin seeks to remind again about the problem of war, because many of the friendly countries, as well as some of the Ukrainians themselves, began to “get tired” of this topic.
“It is important not to forget about Ukraine. We say that the world is tired, probably not tired, but people’s focus has simply shifted. Therefore, it is important that there is such public diplomacy, when not only the state communicates with another state, but just people, athletes , businessmen. This is my contribution, because I will not only ride a bicycle, not only collect funds, but also meet with them, with universities, with politicians. Several Hollywood stars have agreed to ride with me, which will also help to raise funds for Ukrainian children,” says Pavlo Tanasiuk.
How will “Ride for victory” end?
After overcoming the entire route, the entrepreneur plans to contribute the funds collected during the streams to the money from the sale of the bicycle that Pavlo used to make a charity trip. The rover will be sold at auction.
An entrepreneur’s bicycle is special. It consists of parts from different parts of the world. Artist Olesya Vakulenko painted the rover with the national ornament in blue and yellow colors. Paul’s helmet is painted in the same way. Under the wheel, the bicycle is decorated with a metal plate from “Azovstal”. It is embossed with the coat of arms of Ukraine and the signature of the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny.
