The top three in terms of the number of Ukrainian immigrants remain unchanged: Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. These countries provide favorable conditions for Ukrainians, including significant financial assistance. In total, these three countries accepted almost 2.5 million Ukrainians.

In addition to Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic, as of 2024, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Norway, France, Switzerland, and Great Britain are on the list. At the same time, Ukrainians receive the largest payments in Belgium.

Ukrainian refugees in Belgium can count on one-time and monthly financial assistance. Upon arrival, each person receives a one-time payment of €310.

The amount of monthly payments depends on the composition of the family and the age of its members:

  • €1,100 – for a single person.
  • €750 for each adult family member.
  • From €100 to €200 for children, depending on age.

The maximum monthly allowance per family does not exceed €1,560.

In Germany 1,169,630 Ukrainians are registered, payments here range from 357 euros (for children under 5 years old) to 563 euros (for single persons and single parents) per month. In addition, in Germany they provide an additional 750-850 euros for housing rent and 130 euros for school needs.

In Poland from July 1, payment of 40 zlotys per day for Ukrainians within 120 days from the moment of arrival in the country (one zloty equals 0.23 euros or 10.5 hryvnias) is effective. Parents of children under the age of 18 receive 800 zlotys per month for each child, provided that they attend school or kindergarten. It is important to note that Ukrainians face problems even in countries that provide significant support, particularly in Poland. Currently, there are 957,505 immigrants from Ukraine in Poland.

Czech Republic provided shelter to 346,830 Ukrainians. Payments here depend on the subsistence minimum: children receive 3,490-4,188 kroner per month, children with disabilities – 5,235 kroner (one krone equals 0.023 euros or 1.76 UAH). Adults receive 4,860 kroner per month, but after 150 days in the country, this amount decreases to 3,130 kroner, adults with disabilities receive 7,290 kroner. From August 2024, the Czech Republic will increase humanitarian aid for Ukrainian refugees. The choice will be between a fixed payment or compensation for actual housing costs. In order to receive assistance, refugees will need to provide proof of residence and expenses. The Czech Republic notes that Ukrainian immigrants contributed more taxes to the country’s budget than they received aid from the state.

Ukrainian refugees in Denmark can receive the following payments:

  1. Monthly social assistance of around DKK 6,000 (approx. EUR 800) per adult.
  2. Payments for children – they amount to about 1,500 Danish kroner (approximately 200 euros) per child per month. In addition, local municipalities determine the amount of compensation for families that host Ukrainian refugees. For example, the municipality of Esbjerg pays 200 kroner (approx. 27 euros) per day for each adult and 150 kroner (approx. 20 euros) per day for a child.

The rating includes 5 more countries that provide significant support to Ukrainians:

Ireland – 824 euros/month;

Norway – 650 euros/month;

France – 426 euros/month;

Switzerland – 350-500 euros/month;

Great Britain – from 350 euros/month.

It is interesting to note that in many countries the level of support for Ukrainians depends not only on the number of refugees, but also on the economic capabilities and political will of the governments. For example, in Norway and Ireland, where the number of refugees is smaller, payments remain at a high level, which indicates the priority of supporting Ukrainians in these countries.
