Trump appoints podcaster Dan Bongino as FBI deputy director

US President Donald Trump has nominated podcaster and commentator Dan Bongino, a former NYPD and Secret Service officer, to be deputy director of the FBI. About this informs BBC.

Trump called Bongino “a man with incredible love and passion for our country” and noted that he will work under newly appointed FBI Director Kesh Patel. Bongino, 50, is a staunch Trump supporter who has promoted false claims about the 2020 election.

Because his appointment does not require Senate confirmation, the FBI is now headed by two people, neither of whom has experience working at the agency. Traditionally, the deputy director position is held by a career agent with many years of experience who is responsible for the FBI’s domestic and international operations.

Bongino hosts a daily podcast, The Dan Bongino Show, whose Facebook posts often receive more attention than Fox News and CNN combined. He previously ran for Congress three times and took on Trump on his podcast before last year’s election. In the social network “X”, Bongino often enters into disputes with Trump’s critics, in particular, he led a long public controversy with the writer Stephen King.
