Trump orders wall on Mexican border painted black to deter migrants
Homeland Security Secretary Kristy Noem said the entire border wall on the southern border with Mexico will be painted black to heat up and serve as an additional barrier to stop illegal migration. She emphasized that this idea belongs to President Donald Trump, informs ABC News.
During a visit to a section of the wall in New Mexico, Noem personally took up the roller and helped with the painting. She noted the height and depth of the structure as factors complicating attempts to climb over or crawl under it. The minister also emphasized that the agency plans to test the black coating to make the metal even hotter.
“This was done specifically at the request of the president. When something is painted black, it becomes warmer, which makes it even more difficult for people to climb.”, — the government official explained.
She specified that the continuation of the construction of the wall will be possible thanks to the resources provided for in the “great and beautiful law” signed by Donald Trump on reducing taxes and spending.
“Right now, construction is going at a little less than half a mile a day. And the border wall will look very different depending on the topography and geography of where it’s being built.” Christy Noem added.
A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security emphasized that the “great, beautiful law” will allow the Trump administration to complete the creation of the border wall system, the construction of which began during his first term as president from 2017 to 2021. The department did not name the cost, explaining that active procurement is ongoing, and the disclosure of details may affect further tenders.
We will remind you that for the first time the idea of painting the wall in black appeared during the previous presidency of Trump. In 2020, it was planned to test the black coating on some sections of the wall.
