Trump-Putin meeting in Budapest suspended: NBC News

The organization of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest has been temporarily suspended. According to Trump, “both sides are not sufficiently prepared for negotiations”. This information was confirmed by the White House, reported NBC News journalist Garrett Haake.

“Planning for the Trump/Putin summit in Budapest is currently “on hold”. The initial conversation between Secretary Rubio and Foreign Minister Lavrov was “productive,” but the US President believes that both sides are not sufficiently prepared for negotiations to justify further action now,” the statement said.

The White House confirmed that no meeting between Trump and Putin is planned in the near future:

“Secretary Rubio and Foreign Minister Lavrov had a constructive phone conversation. Therefore, an additional in-person meeting between the Secretary and the Secretary of State is not necessary, and there are currently no plans for President Trump to meet with President Putin in the near future.

As a reminder, on October 21, it was announced that a planned meeting between key U.S. and Russian representatives—Secretary of State Mark Rubio and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov—had been postponed.

On October 20, Rubio and Lavrov held a telephone conversation during which, according to a U.S. State Department summary, they discussed “next steps” following the October 16 call between Trump and Putin regarding a possible end to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
