Texas investor Gentry Beach, who is a friend of Trump’s son, is considering making deals with Russian companies. According to The New York Times, last fall he privately signed a preliminary agreement with one of Russia’s largest energy companies, Novatek, to develop a natural gas project in Alaska. This was reported by The New York Times.
“Trump is a deal-oriented president. “I don’t think people would feel as comfortable working with Russian companies under a Biden administration as they did under a Trump administration,” Beach said. The project is currently in its early stages and faces a number of significant challenges. Beach did not disclose the financial terms of the deal. Novatek confirmed that it is in talks to potentially use its own natural gas liquefaction technology in remote areas of northern Alaska, but did not directly confirm a partnership with an American investor.
If the agreement is implemented, it could be the first time in the past year that an American business has officially concluded a new agreement with a major Russian company after the Kremlin began to demonstrate openness to cooperation with the Trump administration.
Beach claims that the highest-level representatives in Moscow and Washington have been informed about the initiative, and he plans to announce the leadership of the future project in the near future.
According to him, the agreements were reached during meetings in Dubai and European countries with the billionaire Leonid Mikhelson, CEO of Novatek. Mikhelson is subject to sanctions by the UK and Canada, but not by the US or the European Union.
Gentry Beach works in the hedge fund and private equity sectors. He is a long-time acquaintance of Donald Trump Jr. and served as vice chairman of finance during Donald Trump’s inauguration in 2017.
Meanwhile, most US corporations that previously viewed Russia as a promising market are now wary of returning due to political risks and uncertainty about potential profitability.
