Trump said he no longer considers the issue of enriched uranium remaining in Iran to be a problem
US President Donald Trump said that he no longer considers the issue of enriched uranium, which is still stored in Iran, to be a problem because it is hidden deep underground. The head of the White House said this in an interview with Reuters.
Trump stressed that the main objective of the military operation was to prevent Iran from creating nuclear weapons.
The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, stated that almost half of Iran’s uranium, enriched to 60%, was stored in a tunnel complex in Isfahan and is probably still there. This tunnel complex is the only target that appears not to have suffered significant damage during the Israeli and US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities last June. However, Trump stated that the goal of preventing the creation of nuclear weapons was achieved.
“It (enriched uranium. – Ed.) is so deep underground that I don’t care. We will always monitor it with the help of satellites,” – Trump emphasized.
The US President also stated that Iran is currently not capable of developing nuclear weapons.
Iran has long denied its intentions to create nuclear weapons and insists that its nuclear program is peaceful in nature.
In addition, Trump claims that as a result of military actions against Iran, it was possible to change the regime in this country, despite the fact that some Iranian senior officials remain in their positions, and the new supreme leader is the son of the slain Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
According to a Reuters source, on Trump’s instructions, Vice President J.D. Vance made it clear to mediators in the negotiations with Iran that the American president is ready to agree to a ceasefire if certain US demands are met.
On April 1, Axios reported that the US and Iran are discussing a possible deal that would provide for a ceasefire in exchange for Tehran opening the Strait of Hormuz.
