U.S. delegation led by Dee Vance’s wife to visit Greenland
This week, an American delegation will visit Greenland amid US President Donald Trump’s statements about the possible annexation of the island. The delegation will be headed by Usha Vance, the wife of US Vice President Jay D. Vance. The panel will also include White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, informs Reuters.
Waltz and Wright plan to visit Pituffick Space Base, a US military facility in Greenland, where they will receive training from the US military. Afterward, they will join the Vances for a national sled dog race and a visit to historic sites.
White House National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes said the visit is aimed at developing partnerships that respect Greenland’s right to self-determination and promote economic cooperation.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, commenting on the situation, emphasized that Copenhagen takes these events seriously. She emphasized that cooperation with the US should be based on the principles of sovereignty, and assured that all negotiations regarding Greenland will take place in coordination with the Danish government and the future government of the island.
It will be recalled that on March 23, Prime Minister of Greenland Mute Burup Egede reacted sharply to the upcoming visit, noting that Greenland’s attempts to conduct a diplomatic dialogue “are not responding” to Trump and his administration, which seeks to control the island.
