Uber and Nvidia to launch global network of 100,000 robo-taxis

The American taxi platform Uber has announced plans to create a network of 100,000 autonomous cars that will operate on the basis of Nvidia technology. The mass launch of the robotaxis network is planned for 2027, reports Bloomberg.

Uber’s first partners in the supply of such cars will be automakers Stellantis and Foxconn. Uber will control all processes – from maintenance and charging to remote customer support.

The cooperation involves the use of Nvidia’s new technology platform Drive AGX Hyperion 10, which combines hardware and sensor systems for autonomous driving. Stellantis plans to build at least 5,000 robo-taxis for Uber, while Foxconn will handle system integration and component manufacturing.

In addition, Uber and Nvidia will create a joint “data factory” to train the artificial intelligence that will drive the robo-taxis. The company plans to collect more than three million hours of data from autonomous trips to improve its driving models. Nvidia, in turn, will provide computing resources, AI algorithms, and simulation and analysis tools.

The overall goal of 100,000 vehicles also includes 20,000 vehicles that Uber plans to acquire from Lucid and Nuro over the next six years. In July, Uber announced a major partnership with electric car maker Lucid and autonomous technology developer Nuro to launch a global premium robo-taxis program. As part of the deal, the company will invest $300 million in developing a fleet of self-driving cars.
