Ukraine has created the first underground hub for training military personnel during airstrikes
Ukraine has implemented the first example of integrating a steel shelter into the structure of a military educational institution — an underground hub created to ensure a continuous educational process even during air raids. This was reported by the Metinvest group, which initiated and implemented the project. The area of the underground shelter is almost 100 square meters. m. Its structure consists of prefabricated steel modules manufactured at the factory, which allows the structure to be assembled in just a month and a half. The shelter meets state building standards and combines the functions of a safe space and adapted multifunctional classrooms for training. The military can be there during air raids and continue training without interruption, the company said.
Metinvest added that the training hub is located separately from the main building of the academy and is connected to it by steel walkways. The structure is buried deep enough underground to provide reliable protection from debris and drone attacks. The shelter is designed for comfortable training of over 70 people and temporary stay of up to 150 people.
“Inside there are three training spaces, bathrooms, five exits, one of which is a spare evacuation, which can additionally take personnel to a safe distance. Thanks to the folding furniture, the room is easily transformed for various formats of classes – from lectures to tactical medicine trainings”, – noted in “Metinvest”.
The idea of creating an underground training center belongs to the management of the Odessa Military Academy. Investments in the project amounted to 16 million UAH. The hub was built from steel from enterprises of the “Metinvest” group within the framework of the concept of reconstruction of the country “Steel Dream” and military initiative Steel Front Rinat Akhmetov.
