Ukraine has announced the introduction of electronic visa pre-approval requirements for Israeli citizens, including pilgrims. This decision is in response to recent changes in Israeli visa policy, which require Ukrainians to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before entering the country.
About this reported at the Embassy of Ukraine in Israel.
Ukraine’s ambassador to Israel, Yevhen Korniychuk, said that this move is a consequence of the strain in relations between the two countries, caused by restrictions on Ukrainian refugees and the denial of entry to many Ukrainians. He emphasized that the new requirement effectively ends the visa-free regime, which has existed since 2010.
From July 1, 2024, all foreign nationals, including Ukrainians, will be required to obtain an electronic ETA permit before traveling to Israel. In response, Ukraine is introducing similar requirements for Israeli citizens, which will especially affect the thousands of pilgrims who visit Ukraine every year, including Uman during the Rosh Hashanah celebration.
The Ukrainian diplomat noted that the country is open to dialogue with Israel regarding the latest changes in visa policy and is ready for negotiations for the benefit of the citizens of both countries. He also emphasized the importance of taking into account the interests of religious pilgrims, who play a significant role in the cultural exchange between Ukraine and Israel.
