Ukrainian mixed martial artist Yaroslav Amosov wins in UFC
Ukrainian mixed martial arts fighter Yaroslav Amosov successfully debuted in the most prestigious MMA promotion in the world — UFC. In his first fight under the auspices of the organization, he defeated the experienced American Neil Magni.
To before moving to UFC Amosov has been competing in Bellator, one of the world’s leading MMA promotions, since 2018. In 2021, the Ukrainian won the welterweight title (up to 77 kg), but in November 2023 he lost the belt, losing by knockout to Jason Jackson. That fight was his last in Bellator.
Amosov began considering the possibility of joining the UFC back in 2024. A key step on this path was his victory over American Curtis Millender, which actually opened the door for him to the most popular fighting promotion.
The Ukrainian’s first opponent in the UFC was Neil Magni, a veteran of the organization who made his debut in it back in 2013. Before the meeting with Amosov, the American had fought 36 fights at this level, winning 24 and losing 12.
The fight began with an exchange of blows in the standing position, after which Amosov took his opponent to the ground. The Ukrainian controlled the situation in the top position and in the fourth minute of the first round forced Magni to surrender, performing a suffocating technique.
Thus, Yaroslav Amosov recorded his debut victory in the UFC. The fight took place in the preliminary card of the tournament on December 13, the main event of which was the victory of Manel Kape over Brandon Royvel.
After the fight, the Ukrainian shared his first emotions directly in the octagon:
“Thank you UFC. I want to say: hello to everyone in the 170-pound division. This is a special moment for me. In fights, you never know how it will end, but if you go into the cage with the desire to win, the result will definitely come – regardless of the method.
Amosov also emphasized his long-term ambitions:
“Every athlete dreams of a championship title. To achieve this, you need to work hard, train well and move forward step by step. This is my path, and I am going towards the highest goal.”
