Volodymyr Zelenskyy sends signals of readiness for peace talks: WSJ

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has begun to change the tone of his rhetoric about ending the war, suggesting that Ukraine might consider ending the fight over Russian-occupied territories in exchange for NATO membership. On this indicates The Wall Street Journal.
The publication notes that in a series of recent interviews and statements, Zelensky has demonstrated readiness for negotiations on ending the conflict. This coincides with the calls of the newly elected US President Donald Trump during the election campaign.
For a long time during the war, Zelensky firmly insisted on the restoration of all occupied territories of Ukraine, the publication reminds. However, the president does not rule out the possibility of a ceasefire under the condition that Ukraine is given security and protection guarantees through NATO membership.
However, journalists note that such prospects have significant obstacles. First, Ukraine’s accession to NATO in the near future remains unlikely. Secondly, Russia shows no interest in any negotiations.
Earlier, Zelenskyi emphasized that freezing the conflict without significantly strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities would only pave the way for renewed aggression from Russia in a few years.
