“War “to the last Ukrainian” is not what you want”: Yuriy Sapronov

Ukrainian society constantly discusses issues related to the end of the war, the conditions for achieving peace, and the prospects for Ukraine’s accession to NATO. These topics are in the center of attention not only of Ukrainians, but also of the international community, because not only the fate of Ukraine depends on the solution of these issues, but also the security of Europe as a whole. Against this background, various opinions, assumptions and statements are heard, which influence the further development of the situation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement emphasizing that Ukraine’s full membership in NATO is the only real guarantee of its security and an effective deterrent to Russia’s further aggression both against Ukraine and against other states. The document also emphasizes Ukraine’s categorical rejection of any alternative formats of guarantees.
“Taking into account the bitter experience of the Budapest Memorandum, we will not accept any substitutes or surrogates for full membership in NATO.” – stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Support for Ukraine’s membership in NATO has both supporters and skeptics among international partners. On opinion Yuriy Sapronova is a Ukrainian entrepreneur, public figure, volunteer, deputy head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration in 2010-2014, president of the leading Ukrainian golf club “Superior Golf Club” (Kharkiv), this statement can become a stumbling block in relations with the United States, especially if its will confirm from the NATO podium. He notes that the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO seems unlikely, as this issue causes serious opposition in a number of key Alliance states.
Sapronov draws attention to “Trump’s plan”, which, according to him, may be announced in January 2025. Although the official details of this plan are not yet known, speculation suggests the possibility of compromises that may not satisfy Ukraine’s interests. He emphasizes that Ukraine is completely dependent on the financial and military support of the United States, and this dependence makes the situation even more difficult.
“On December 5, 1994, in Budapest, the presidents – Leonid Kuchma from Ukraine, Bill Clinton from the USA, John Major from Great Britain and Boris Yeltsin from the Russian Federation – signed a document according to which Ukraine, in exchange for the renunciation of nuclear weapons, their destruction and the transfer of part The Russian Federation receives guarantees of security, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders.
This document was trampled by the Russians under the guise of “concern” and deliberate, cynical hypocrisy on the part of the US and Great Britain. We were frankly betrayed.
We do not know all the official details of the “Trump plan”, which according to my sources in the US, will be announced either in the evening of January 20 or in the morning of January 21. There are many rumors and assumptions.
I am sure that NATO does not shine for us, and whether it is possible to get guarantees of real security with the help of another document – I do not know. If this statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, which is essentially an ultimatum, will be confirmed today from the rostrum in Brussels, then, in my opinion, it will greatly anger Trump. Why is everyone, including me, talking about the “Trump plan”? I emphasize once again: we are completely dependent on money and the position of the USA”, – wrote Yuriy Sapronov on his Facebook page.
According to Sapronov, the search for an optimal solution requires a balanced approach. A war “to the last Ukrainian” is not an option, but the lack of real security guarantees also endangers the country’s future. In such conditions, the support of the Ukrainian army, which protects the country at the front, plays a key role. Society should continue to support the military, and the international community should continue to look for ways to achieve sustainable peace.
“Where to find the optimal solution, I do not know. We can only wait, pray every hour for our boys who protect us at the front, in the trenches, and help them 24/7 with everything we can.
24/7″, – summed up Sapronov.
