Where to go for refugees in Germany: updated information for April 2024

Germany accepts thousands of refugees from Ukraine every month. Some lands are ready to accept new arrivals, but others have already run out of available social housing.

RBC-Ukraine with reference to the project uahelp.wiki updates information on where refugees can go in Germany and which initial reception camps are open for April 2024:

The capital of Germany and federal states:

  • Berlin: Tegel (former airport) is the largest initial reception point from where people are distributed throughout Germany. Details at the link.
  • Baden-Württemberg:
  • Karlsruhe (Durlacher Allee 100, 76137 Karlsruhe) – distributes to other lands, accepts everyone, but it is not recommended to travel with animals larger than a cat.
  • Meßstetten (Geißbühlstraße 51, 72469 Meßstetten) – distributes to other lands, difficult to reach by public transport, does not accept pets from April 2024.
  • Freiburg (Basler Landstraße 16, 79111 Freiburg) – distributes to other lands, does not accept people who need medical assistance, small animals are allowed.

 

  • Bavaria:
    Munich (Dachauer Str. 122a, 80637 München) – delivers throughout Bavaria, pets are not recommended.
  • Giessen (Rödgener Straße 59-61, 35394 Gießen Ankunftshalle) – it is recommended to arrive before 20:00, if later – the Bahnhofsmission in Frankfurt can accommodate overnight.
  • North Rhine-Westphalia:
  • Bochum (Gersteinring 50, 44791 Bochum initial reception facility).
    Saarland:
  • Лебах (Schlesierallee 17, 66822 Lebach).
  • Thuringia:
  • Germsdorf (Max-Hellermann-Straße 15).
  • Schleswig-Holstein:
  • Neumünster (Haart 148, 24359 Neumünster) – receives and distributes to other points.
  • Боштедт (Von-dem-Borne-Straße, 24598 Boostedt) – accepts animals, including large dogs.
  • Зет (Hauptstrasse 100, 23845 Seeth) – accepts animals, including large dogs.
    Conditions in all camps are similar. Ukrainians are advised to go where it is more convenient to get to. It is not possible to change reception points. You can register only once.

All reception points are open 24 hours a day.
