Zelensky allocated 4 billion hryvnias for preparing Kharkiv for winter

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi during his visit to Kharkiv on May 24 reported on the allocation of 4 billion hryvnias for the preparation of the city and region for the next heating season. Half of this amount will come from the reserve fund of the state budget, and the other half – from the city budget.

The funds will be directed to the restoration of damaged equipment, installation of cogeneration plants and other measures necessary to ensure the stable operation of the energy infrastructure in winter.

In addition, the president instructed the government to develop a collateral-free loan mechanism for damaged power generation enterprises.

During the visit, the situation with the provision of the second level of protection at Ukrenergo substations in the region was also discussed.

Also, during the discussions, special attention was paid to the issue of providing housing for 20,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the territories of Kharkiv Oblast, who are constantly under fire from Russia. These people were temporarily housed in the dormitories of higher education institutions in Kharkiv. The important news is that these IDPs are ready to give up their damaged housing for the benefit of the state in order to receive certificates through the “eRecovery” program to buy new housing in Kharkiv or the region.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed the Prime Minister of Ukraine to work out the possibility of implementing such an approach, which could become an important step in solving the housing problem for many IDPs.
