President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced on Monday evening his arrival in Germany for negotiations with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and participation in a conference on the restoration of Ukraine.
“With Olaf Scholz, we will talk about further defense support, the development of the Ukrainian air defense system, joint production of weapons, we will coordinate positions on the eve of the World Summit, the European Council summit and the NATO summit,” – wrote Zelenskyi on the X media platform.
Berlin recently allowed Ukraine to use German weapons to strike targets in Russia, although it had long refused to do so for fear of provoking an escalation of the war in Ukraine.
After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Germany abandoned its traditional pacifist position and became the second supplier of military equipment to Kyiv after the United States.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Zelenskyy is to take part in a conference on the restoration of Ukraine, which will be attended by 10 prime ministers, other representatives of the government and the private sector.
“In the conditions of Russian aerial terror, urgent solutions for the Ukrainian energy industry will be our main priority.
I will also meet with the President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the President of the Bundestag Berbel Bas, I will visit the military base where our soldiers are trained.” – he added.
Then Zelenskyi will go to Switzerland to participate in a conference on achieving peace in Ukraine, which will be attended by 90 countries and organizations. China announced that it would not be present at this event, and Russia was not invited.
