Zelensky comments on the future of US support in case of Trump’s return

During a press conference at the Ukraine-Northern Europe Summit in Reykjavik on 28 October, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he had not heard any direct statements by US presidential candidate Donald Trump about reducing support for Ukraine if he wins the election. At the same time, Zelenskyy acknowledged that certain risks are possible and stressed the existence of an internal plan to strengthen Ukraine’s resilience.

I haven’t heard Trump say that he will stop this support. We do not know what will happen in the future. We understand that there is a certain risk, especially if US policy changes after the election,’ Zelenskyy said.

The President stressed that it is not yet known who will become the new head of the United States, but Ukraine relies on continued bipartisan support from Congress, regardless of the change of administration. According to Zelenskyy, a withdrawal of support for Ukraine would not only be a significant blow to Ukraine, but also a victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin, which would be a defeat for the West’s democratic values.

I’m not sure that Trump, if he becomes president of the United States, will want to lose, in the sense of stopping supporting Ukraine. However, I agree that there are risks. Therefore, Ukraine has its own plan to strengthen its internal stability,’ he concluded.

It is worth noting that earlier it became known about Trump’s plans to settle and war on Ukraine, which include Ukraine’s refusal to join NATO and economic pressure on Russia.
