17 flights were canceled at Munich airport due to unknown drones
Late in the evening on October 2 in the German city of Munich, flights were initially restricted and later completely stopped due to unknown drones spotted over the object. This was reported by the airport press service.
As a result of the introduced security measures, 17 flights could not take off from Munich, affecting almost 3,000 passengers. Another 15 planes that were supposed to arrive were diverted to Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Vienna and Frankfurt.
Federal police said overnight that several people reported seeing a drone near the airport. Later, reports of the appearance of drones directly over the airport territory also began to arrive. At first, it remained unknown whether it was about one device or several. Employees of the federal and state police patrolled the area in search of drones and possible suspects, but this did not yield results.
The administration of the Munich airport together with the airlines provided assistance to the passengers who remained in the waiting rooms: beds were installed for them, blankets, drinks and snacks were provided, the press service noted.
“Some flights are still waiting to depart, others have been cancelled. Everything is under control, and the airport should reopen at 5 am, the airport press service said.
Let us remind you that on the night of September 26, suspicious drone flights over strategic objects were recorded in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein in the north of Germany. Several unmanned aerial vehicles flew over a shipyard in Kiel, after which they were seen over a university clinic, a power plant, near the local parliament building, and over an oil refinery.
