610,000 consumers remain without electricity in Kyiv: Shmyhal
As of the evening of January 28, 610 thousand consumers in Kyiv remain without electricity, reported Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal on Facebook. He noted that the situation remains difficult due to a shortage of capacity, but the city has significant potential to restore electricity supply.
“Regarding the electricity situation. The capacity shortage remains. As of the evening of January 28, 610 thousand consumers in Kyiv are without electricity. We conducted a detailed audit of the capabilities of Kyiv and the region in terms of distributed generation. We have significant potential. The task is to speed up the commissioning of the facilities as much as possible. We already have a schedule according to which their phased launch will be carried out, Shmyhal noted.
The minister reported that 16 partner countries provided generators, 437 of which have already been delivered from the EU and Japan, and more than 500 are still expected.
Due to the lack of electricity, the holidays in Kyiv schools have been extended until February 1. Some institutions are operating as Points of Invincibility. The final decision on the format of the training will be made by the Kyiv City Defense Council.
Unfortunately, the minister also reported on the deceased energy worker.
“Unfortunately, we also have losses among energy workers. This morning in the Donetsk region, a gas service worker died as a result of an attack by a Russian FPV drone. He was on his way to a call to restore gas supply to people. My sincere condolences to the family, loved ones and colleagues of the deceased”, Shmyhal wrote.
